Hazel and her sisters, collectively known as the Golden Girls, were rescued from a factory farm at just 12 days old.
She has been genetically bred to grow as fast and big as possible so that she could be killed for meat at just over one month old. Had Hazel not been rescued she would no longer be able to walk because her body would be too heavy for her legs.
Now at Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary, her diet is carefully regulated to control her weight and she is given regular exercise by the very dedicated Mary and sanctuary volunteers to build up her leg muscles.
Many rescued broiler chickens don’t live long because of how they have been bred but at Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary, and with your help, Hazel will have every chance for a long life and every day will be a day of freedom, safety and love.
Hazel’s heart is slowly growing stronger and she is developing a cheeky, happy personality!
You can adopt Hazel for just £25 (inc p&p) a year. Your pack will include: a letter, personalised A5 certificate, 6x4” colour photo supplied in a cool magnetic frame and one update. Half of your donation will feed and care for her and the other half will go to Viva! UK to help save thousands more lives – animal and human – through campaigns against factory farming.
